W. C. Baker Rare Books & Ephemera specializes in books, manuscripts, ephemera, and archives relating to avant-garde literature, social movements, and unusual currents in science, religion, and the performing arts. We are based in Brooklyn, New York, appear regularly at book fairs in the New York area, and sell online and through electronic lists and printed catalogs.
In addition to buying and selling, we provide a broad range of appraisal, collection development, cataloging, and other consulting services for both individual collectors and institutions. If you are considering selling or donating a large collection, a single book, or an archive, please do not hesitate to contact us for more detailed descriptions of our rates and specific services.
The founder of the firm, Will Baker, holds advanced degrees in Museum Studies and Information and Library Science and is an alumnus of both Rare Book School at the University of Virginia and the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar. He began working in the rare book business in 2004 as a cataloger in Americana at the William Reese Company in New Haven, Connecticut. In 2011, Will took a hiatus from the trade to serve as the first Executive Director of the Institute Library in New Haven, where he worked to revitalize its collection, membership, and community programming. He returned to the business full-time in 2014, primarily as a consultant to several leading American book collectors and non-profit cultural organizations.
